Schul Globus by Ludwig Julius Heymann, Leipzig, Germany, ca. 1910 Large German school terrestrial globe with a globe diameter of 30 cm and an overall height of approximately 60 cm. Mounted on its original ebonized solid wood stand with integrated compass. The fully legible paper cartography shows normal age-related wear, foxing and minor surface imperfections consistent with age and use. The original ebonized solid wood base shows natural wear and partial losses to the original finish. It has not been restored or refinished, preserving its original patina. The base is slightly warped, but the globe remains stable when displayed. Produced by Ludwig Julius Heymann in Leipzig, this is a German school globe (“Schul Globus”). While produced after the company’s earlier Berlin period, educational examples of this type are considerably less common than standard domestic globes.
