Anonymous Dutch/Flemish School, 17th century Oil on canvas depicting a lively tavern interior with peasants drinking and socializing. The composition is clearly inspired by the Dutch Golden Age genre painters, particularly the tradition of David Teniers the Younger and Adriaen van Ostade. The painting displays convincing period characteristics, including an old handwoven canvas and an aged stretcher. It is unsigned. The work has previously been catalogued by Bukowskis as: "Unknown Artist, 17th century, Oil on canvas." The painting is presented in an attractive later ebonized wooden frame with gilt inner moulding. Condition Good overall antique condition. Natural craquelure consistent with age. Surface dirt and aged varnish. Minor wear consistent with more than two centuries of age. No obvious major repairs visible from the reverse.
