Max Born - Atomic Physics - 1957

Good copy of this classic work in nuclear physics and quantum mechanics by Max Born In view of the important successes of quantum electrodynamics; an attempt has been made to describe the renormalization techniques to which these successes must largely be attributed. The shell model and the collective model of the nucleus are not firmly established, and are discussed more fully. The section on high energy physics machines has been expanded. More details have been given to the resonance methods. Nobel Laureate's lucid treatment of kinetic theory of gases, elementary particles, nuclear atom, wave-corpuscles, atomic structure and spectral lines, much more. Item Description This edition is dedicated to Erich Rosenberg. Authorized translation from the German edition by John Dougall., M.A., D. Sc., F.R.S.E. This classic work in nuclear physics and quantum mechanics based on lectures by the author given at Technischen Hochschule Berlin. This edition appears to be scarce. The book is illustrated with 11 plates, and several text figures and diagrams. Published by Blackie & Son Limited, London and Glasgow, 1957. Publishers’ original green cloth boards, lettered in gilt on spine. Book Dimensions: 22.5 x 15.5 cm and Number of Pages: 445 including appendix, bibliography, and index. Condition External covers are worn at corners, and edges, and with minor rubbings to head and foot of spine. The book in lovely condition, and clean inside. Old inscription dated 1958 and a couple names and stamp on first front free endpaper page. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. Pages are clean, and illustrations are complete and in bright condition (Please see pictures). Max Born “Max Born (11 December 1882 – 5 January 1970) was a German physicist and mathematician who was instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. He also made contributions to solid-state physics and optics and supervised the work of a number of notable physicists in the 1920s and 1930s. Born won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics for his "fundamental research in quantum mechanics, especially in the statistical interpretation of the wave function”.
