Afrika - Sør-Afrika i 1884 – på randen av kappløpet om Afrika; Keith Alexander Johnston - South-Africa - 1881-1900

Status of South-Africa in the year of the Berlin Conference 1884 - at the brink of the so-called "Scramble for Africa", when massive colonization by the USA, the Ottoman Empire and 12 European countries was decided and initiated for Africa. Historically important map, dated 1884, when Germany gained control over Great Namaqualand—part of what is now southern NAMIBIA .The formal acquisition began in the 1880s, culminating in Germany declaring the territory a protectorate in 1884 and marking the start of formal colonial rule. The Boer Republics (Independent Settler States) were Transvaal (South African Republic) and Orange Free State.
