Marc Antoine Fehr (1953) - Scène de boucherie

Expressive gouache by Swiss artist Marc Antoine Fehr depicting a fragmented and dynamic butchery scene. Signed and dated 1997, with provenance from the renowned Galerie Jan Krugier. Executed in a semi-abstract style with layered, earthy tones and fragmented forms, the composition suggests both the brutality of the subject and the painter’s sensitivity to rhythm and structure. The work is monogrammed lower right and features is referenced as part of the Galerie Jan Krugier (reference JK6572), one of the most respected postwar galleries in Europe. Jan Krugier was known for representing major artists such as Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Balthus, Francis Bacon, and Giorgio Morandi. Fehr’s work blends narrative figuration with painterly abstraction, aligning him with artists who explore memory, the human condition, and existential tension. His oeuvre resonates with the visual language of Francis Bacon, Jean Rustin, Lucian Freud, Peter Doig, Michaël Borremans, and Antonio López García, as well as elements of the Leipzig School through artists like Neo Rauch and David Schnell. Fehr’s psychological intensity and raw handling of the human form also evoke the approaches of Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, Jenny Saville, Marlene Dumas, and Georg Baselitz. His interest in corporeality and painterly surface can be seen in dialogue with German and Austrian artists such as Arnulf Rainer, Horst Antes, Rainer Fetting, Jörg Immendorff, Markus Lüpertz, and A.R. Penck. There are also echoes of the atmospheric tension and muted brutality found in the work of Anselm Kiefer, Albert Oehlen, and Günther Förg. Condition: Excellent condition. Colours are well preserved, surface clean. Nicely framed under glass. ** any export /administraiton costs will be on buyers.
