Unknown - Qur'an - Herat - 1460

Qur'an - Herat - Timurid - AD1460. This manuscript leaf from a Koran scribed shortly after Shah Rukh’s reign at a time of great political turmoil. It was relatively small for ease of carriage, thus was most likely for private use. The leaf if from the last verses of the Meccan Chapter 43 Az-Zukhruf (or Ornaments) v:21-30, which tells of a people blindly following their forefathers beliefs, whether right or wrong, yet needing to understand that blind faith unsupported by the Holy Book can lead you down the wrong path. It reminds the reader of Abraham who declared to his people that ‘there is but one God and the only guide’, and who advised them to turn to God. The leaf contains 12 lines of evenly spaced and elegant Naskhi script in black ink. Multiple free-hand 'aya' in a simple gold spiral mark out the verses on the leaf. The leaf has a two marginals (Juz), one in blue and one in gold marking verses 25 and 30th verses respectively of the Chapter. Diacritical advisory script marks in red providing the reader with devotional guidance. The leaf is fully framed in gold and blue lines. There is devotional use staining and a small repair above the upper roundel, but otherwise this is a good clean copy and very well preserved for its age dating from around the time of the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
