Josef Inwald for Barolac - Skål - Pattern no 11281/11 - Frostet og Presset - Art Deco Glass

Cupped bowl in frosted, pressed glass crafted in Czechoslovakia at Rudolfshütte (Rudolfova huť) part of the Josef Inwald Glasswerke for Barolac. The name 'Barolac' was registered in the UK by John Jenkins and Sons Ltd, Glass Importers. They are one of the leading importers of Crystal and Glass for the high end hospitality. Barolac was a line of frosted Art Deco Glass produced during the 1930's, it consisted of primarily of Tableware. The head designer at Rudolfshütte (Rudolfova huť) during this time was Klaus Rudolf Schröter (also: Schrotter), considered the father of Czechoslovakian pressed glass and inventor of 'Durit' glass. There is evidence that Douglas Jenkins (son of John) not only added the finishing touches to the designs coming out of Rudolfshütte, but designed some himself, which were then made and exported to England. Thirteen designs for Barolac glassware are registered in the UK. This delightful bowl in frosted, pressed glass is decorated with intricate Waterlilies and luscious Lily pads, gentle ripples of water leading form the flowers and leaves towards the underside. It measures 22.5cm in diameter at the rim and at its widest 25cm. It is 12.5cm high and weighs 1.95kg. There is a small production fault on the rim (a small dip) which is smooth to the touch (photo 29). In photos 8 & 28 can be 2 marks seen, these are light scuffs in the frosting which are made visible by the intense light for photography, but are barely perceptible in normal/day light. A few small bubbles are present (photos 20 & 21). On the inside of the bowl is a line (visible in photo 30 & 31 and in the cover photo on the right side under the top Waterlily), this is a faint signature (the top curve of the B is visible and the accentuating line under the word Barolac). These beautiful pieces of pressed glass were hand finished, which lead to the high quality in detail and luminescence. It is a magnificent piece in Art Deco Style. Please view the photos closely, as they make part of the description. Due to import regulation are we currently not shipping to the USA. We pack safely and with care, we want your new purchase to arrive in the same state it left us, for you to enjoy. Shipping with Insurance and Track & Trace.
