PROVENANCE: Private collection Donald Wonder (1938 - 2023), California, United States of America. Acquired at various auction houses and galleries between 1983 - 1996 between: - Benjamin-Lustig's, New York. - Helios, Maryland. - Arte Primitivo, New York. DOCUMENTS: Provided of a certificate of authenticity and export license by the Ministry of Culture. DESCRIPTION: Bastet or Bast was a goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, worshipped as early as the Second Dynasty (2890 BCE). Her name also is rendered as B'sst, Baast, Ubaste, and Baset. In ancient Greek religion, she was known as Ailuros (Koinē Greek: αἴλουρος "cat"). Bastet was worshipped in Bubastis in Lower Egypt, originally as a lioness goddess, a role shared by other deities such as Sekhmet. Eventually Bastet and Sekhmet were characterized as two aspects of the same goddess, with Sekhmet representing the powerful warrior and protector aspect and Bastet, who increasingly was depicted as a cat, representing a gentler aspect. Notes: - The piece includes authenticity certificate. - The piece includes Spanish Export License (Passport for European Union) - If the piece is destined outside the European Union a substitution of the export permit should be requested, can take between 1-2 weeks maximum. - The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property.
