Amlash Terrakotta Bicone-beholder (Ingen reservasjonspris)

A finely modelled Amlash terracotta vessel, featuring a bicone body that rests on a flattened circular base. The vessel rises up to a short neck and an outsplayed rim. Earthly encrustations and slight scratches, pitting to the surface as typical for age. Minor chipping to the rim. The term ‘Amlash Culture’, has generally been used to designate material cultures excavated at Gilan, an archaeological site on the south shore of the Caspian sea, and refers to a group of Iron Age pottery and metal executions with a strong visual character. Most of the Amlash pottery vessels are believed to have been stylistically and typologically inspired by bronze wares of the same period. Amalsh Iron Age pottery tradition favoured bird iconographies as their conventional repertoire. Terracotta vessels of this type were clearly designed as pouring vessels, but they might have been used in a particular funerary ritual and ceremonial occasion. Measurements: H 12cm x W 13cm Provenance: Ex. specialist Near Eastern pottery collection, London, 1990s. N.B. Delivery may be longer due to the busier period and we do not guarantee delivery before Christmas. Items paid for after the 19th December will be shipped after the New Year (week commencing on the 5th January 2026). **There will be an additional fee incurred for returned shipments due to buyer’s non-response to customs enquiries and/or unsuccessful delivery attempts.**
