Each guard consists of multiple iron plates joined together and backed with fabric, designed to protect the lower legs in traditional samurai armour configurations. Signs of age include scuffs, rust on the iron surface, and losses to the black lacquer. The fabric backing shows fraying, small tears, stains, and fading due to age.
