Mount Horai (Mount Penglai) Eternal Youth Sansui Landscape Crane Turtle Rising Sun with Box - Murase Gyokuden 村瀬玉田 (1852-1917) - Japan (Ingen reservasjonspris)

村瀬玉田 Murase Gyokuden (1852-1917) Japanese painter of the Meiji and Taisho periods, born in Kyoto in 1872. Studied under Murase Soseki and studied the Shijo school. A talented member of the Shijo School, he specialised in realistic depictions of landscapes, flowers and birds. with signature 'Gyokuden Baku' 玉田 摸 A distinguished hanging scroll by Murase Gyokuden (1852–1917), presenting the legendary Mount Hōrai (Penglai)—the mythical island of eternal youth. The towering cliffs, ancient pines, rising cranes, and auspicious turtle are rendered with remarkable finesse, embodying the classical ideals of longevity and immortality in East Asian art. The artist’s exquisite brushwork, especially in the dense yet airy pine groves, reveals a level of mastery characteristic of the Kyoto painting tradition. The composition rises dramatically from swirling waves toward the glowing rising sun, symbolizing renewal and unending vitality. This is a work rich in auspicious iconography: cranes for long life, turtles for endurance, and Mount Hōrai itself as the mythical paradise of the immortals. Gyokuden’s subtle color gradation and meticulous detailing make this an exceptional example of late-Meiji to early-Taishō Japanese landscape painting. The scroll comes with an aged wooden storage box, showing period patina consistent with its era—adding historical depth and authenticity to the piece. 村瀬玉田 Murase Gyokuden (1852-1917) Japanese art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / Mount Horai (Mount Penglai) Eternal Youth Sansui Landscape Crane Turtle Rising Sun with Box Whole dimensions: 30.5" W x 78.8" H / 77.7cm x 200.2cm Inside dimensions: 22.6" W x 56.6" H / 57.5cm x 144cm Material: Silk Technique: Handpainted Roller ends: Wood Weight: 1250g including Box Condition Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
