Ancient Chinese, Han Dynasty Polychrome Pottery Rooster with Bronze Legs Circa 2nd-1st century BC This pottery rooster is modelled with a prominent crest, short beak, and detailed tail feathers. The surface is painted in black, red, and white to suggest plumage, with symmetrical dot motifs on the wings. The legs are separately cast in bronze. Mingqi, "spirit goods", are tomb furnishings made for the afterlife. During the Han dynasty, they were placed in burials by families of officials and prosperous households to supply the deceased with attendants, animals, and goods.
