Edmond Molle, Paris (1898–1919) - Vase - .950 sølv

Elegant French Solid Silver Vase – Edmond Molle, Paris (1898–1919) Silver purity: Minerva 1er titre – 950/1000 solid silver Weight: 281 g Maker: Edmond Molle (active 1898–1919) Dimensions: Height: 22 cm Upper diameter: 7.9 cm Base width: 7.5 cm Central body diameter: 8.7 cm A refined French vase crafted in solid silver by the Parisian master goldsmith Edmond Molle, active at 114, rue du Temple, Paris. This piece dates from 1898–1919, the period during which Molle’s hallmark – “E.MOLLE” accompanied by a clover – was officially in use. Hallmarks Minerva 1er titre: The French state hallmark for silver of the highest standard, 950/1000 purity. Goldsmith’s mark “E.MOLLE, un trèfle”: Registered on 11 May 1898 and struck out on 25 September 1919. This mark identifies the workshop of Edmond Molle, successor to Alexandre Tortez (1891–1898). Description This elegant vase features a slender, classical silhouette with a gently flared rim and a stable, profiled base. The body is decorated with vertical fluting and an intricate horizontal frieze of neoclassical drapery and festoons, executed with exceptional precision. The craftsmanship reflects the luxurious Parisian silverwork of the late 19th and early 20th century. Molle was renowned for producing high-quality, “silver-rich” objects: table services, mounted crystal pieces, cups, decorative bowls and fine cutlery. Entirely silver pieces of this type – often replaced by porcelain or crystal in the period – are today considered uncommon and highly collectible. Historical Note Edmond Molle succeeded goldsmith Alexandre Tortez at the same Parisian address. His hallmark was introduced in 1898, the same day Tortez’s was cancelled, and remained in use until 1919. His work is recognized for its elegance, quality and refined execution. Condition Very well preserved, with crisp hallmarks and beautifully maintained details consistent with age. A distinguished and authentic example of French silversmithing from the Belle Époque era – an excellent piece for collectors of fine silver, decorative arts, or Parisian craftsmanship.
