Rabbi Avraham Broda ( Broida ; 1650 - 1717 ) was an Ashkenazi rabbi and Rosh Yeshivah , one of the greatest of his generation . He served as a rabbi and Av Beit Din in major communities in Central Europe and the West , including Metz and Frankfurt . He was described by his contemporaries as the rabbi of all the Diaspora . He is the father of the Broida family.

He founded yeshivas in all the cities of his rabbinate and was the rabbi of many of the rabbis of the generation that followed him.
In 1690 he was appointed state rabbi of Bohemia and resided in Prague. In 1692, in addition to this position, he was appointed Rosh Yeshiva in Prague, a position considered to be parallel to the position of Av Beit Din of Prague. In practice, since there was no Av Beit Din appointed in Prague in those years, he also functioned as Av Beit Din. In 1694, Rabbi Gabriel Eshkelesh was appointed Av Beit Din in Prague and Broda returned to his original position as Rosh Yeshiva only. Due to various tensions, Rabbi Gabriel Eshkelesh left his position after a short time and Rabbi Avraham Broda again held a dual role as Rosh Yeshiva and Av Beit Din. In 1704, Rabbi David Oppenheim came to serve as Av Beit Din of Prague and from then on Rabbi Avraham Broda was only Rosh Yeshiva until he left for the Metz rabbinate
Rabbi Avraham Broda wrote many Torah novellas but published nothing in print. After his death, his sons and students printed a small number of his novellas in several volumes, but most of his novellas were lost over time and a few leaves of them have been preserved in libraries and private collections. The publication brought forward here is the Eshel Avraham, printed first in Frankfurt 1747, 30 years after his passing with his son's additional notes, by one of his grandchildren.

The book was met with much admiration and was one of the few books to receive the approbation of the Pnei Yehoshus, Rabbi Y.Y. Falk.
