✦ GLOBALNA WYSYŁKA DARMOWA ✦ OCENIONE JAKO DOSKONAŁE
A moving and finely executed depiction of Christ as the Ecce Homo, shown half-length, crowned with thorns and clothed in a crimson robe. The composition focuses entirely on the psychological and devotional presence of Christ, whose downcast gaze and melancholic expression convey both the physical suffering and spiritual pathos of the Passion. The intimate scale, careful modelling of the flesh tones, and luminous handling of light reflect the enduring influence of the Northern Renaissance tradition well into the 16th century.
Executed in oil on panel, the work bears an old attribution on the reverse to Otto van Veen (Otto Vaenius), the celebrated Flemish painter, humanist, and later teacher of Rubens. An inscription on the panel verso reads: “Otto Vaenius geb. zu Leyden pinxit 1556.” Although this attribution remains unconfirmed, the painting is nevertheless a compelling example of late Renaissance devotional art.
Also present on the reverse is an unidentified wax seal.
