"Workshop School of Photography" was a ‘terakoya-style photography school’ led by Shomei Tomatsu, in which Eikoh Hosoe, Masahisa Fukase, Isamitsu Yokosuka, Nobuyoshi Araki, Daido Moriyama, and others taught photography in their own classrooms. At the same time, “Workshop Quarterly,” a photography magazine, was published continuously from its first issue to its eighth issue. This is the eighth and final issue. The volume opens with “Kinkasha: Night in Ikebukuro” by Seiji Kurata, which covers less than 40 pages and includes illustrations. The rest of the issue is a summary of the past two years, and includes a record of the activities of six photographers (teachers) and their impressions in the form of dialogues. In addition, Koshio Kuwahara's “Diary for a Requested Manuscript,” Masatoshi Naito's “Journey into Photography” (including his views on the sale of “original prints”), and at the end of the book, an “Undercover Roundtable Discussion: Cutting Down Photography Magazines” in which six people speak anonymously on the topic of “The Relationship between ‘Asahi Camera’ and 'Norasha'.” They left scathing comments, as if in response to critical comments made by Asahi Camera and Norasha about the workshop and its members at the time.
