An exceptional and highly rare Victorian mahogany specimen cabinet, dating back to circa 1880. Crafted by a premier firm of London cabinet makers, this monumental piece features a beautifully figured flame mahogany exterior with elegant rounded corners and arched panel doors, typical of the finest late 19th-century British craftsmanship.
Behind the solid doors lies a spectacular and pristine interior consisting of 40 shallow drawers, arranged in two parallel columns of 20. Each drawer is meticulously hand-crafted from solid mahogany and fitted with original, flush-mounted brass military-style handles, allowing the outer doors to close seamlessly.
Provenance & History:
This cabinet comes with documented provenance. Included is the original handwritten letter from Atropos Antiques (Devon, UK), dated 1999, detailing its history. The cabinet originally housed an important 19th-century fossil collection belonging to a Mr. 'Archer', before being acquired directly from a museum.
