ABOUT THE ARTIST

Josep Guinovart (1927–2007) was a Spanish painter and one of the most important figures in Catalan contemporary art. Born in Barcelona, he began his career influenced by realism but soon evolved toward abstraction and informalism, developing a highly personal style. His work is characterized by the use of mixed media, incorporating materials such as earth, wood, and everyday objects, creating textured and expressive compositions.

Guinovart was associated with the Dau al Set group in his early years and later became a key representative of Art Informel in Spain. His art often reflects themes of nature, rural life, and social concerns, deeply connected to his Catalan identity.

Among his major achievements are his role in renewing postwar Spanish art, exhibiting internationally, and the creation of the Espai Guinovart museum in Agramunt, dedicated to his work and legacy.
