Opis od sprzedawcy
Antique Brass Mortar and Pestle
An attractive antique brass mortar with its original pestle, of traditional cylindrical form with a broad flared rim and moulded circular foot. The body is decorated with raised horizontal bands and applied vertical elements, giving the piece a robust architectural character.
The brass displays an appealing aged patina, with areas of oxidation, darkening and surface wear consistent with age and use. The underside bears an oval maker’s or foundry mark, although it is not sufficiently clear in the photograph to attribute with certainty.
A charming and highly decorative example, originally intended for the grinding and preparation of herbs, spices or medicinal ingredients.
Material: Brass
Includes: Mortar and pestle
Decoration: Moulded bands and applied details
Mark: Oval stamp to the underside
Period: Probably late 19th to early 20th century
Diameter: 4.0cm
Height: 3.5cm
Condition: Good antique condition, with wear, oxidation and patina consistent with age and use.
