Kumi Sugai – Trois Balles (Three Balls) – Original Lithograph

An original lithograph by the internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Kumi Sugai (1919–1996).

Conceived in 1970, this dynamic abstract work was published in the same year as part of the masterwork print portfolio Modern Prints, issued by Chikuma Shobo in a limited edition of 500 copies.

The work exemplifies Sugai’s distinctive early-1970s aesthetic, characterized by clean geometric forms, bold symmetry, and precise hard-edge contours that evoke a sense of energy, balance, and modern graphic clarity. The composition demonstrates Sugai’s refined approach to geometric abstraction, creating a striking interplay between form, space, and movement.

Hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower-right margin: “SUGAÏ”.
