Opis od sprzedawcy

Alfred Döblin, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Die Geschichte vom Franz Biberkopf, 1930, S. Fischer Verlag, Berlin. 21. bis 30. Auflage, binding design by Georg Salter, copyright 1929 by S. Fischer Verlag A.-G., Berlin, Printed in Germany.

Signed and dated by Alfred Döblin in blue ink on a front blank leaf, 21 January 1931, two years before he fled Nazi Germany and his books were thrown onto the bonfires. Berlin Alexanderplatz is the great novel of Weimar Berlin: released convict Franz Biberkopf swears to go straight, only to be pulled back into a world of pimps, thieves and betrayal. Döblin's collage of street slang, adverts, news scraps, drinking songs and Bible verses made it Germany's answer to Joyce's Ulysses, later filmed by Fassbinder. Printed in Fraktur, 528 pages, including the famous pictogram pages of Berlin's city departments as Franz enters the city.

Original publisher's grey cloth with blue bands and red lettering after Georg Salter, without dust jacket. Please see all pictures for the overall condition.
