Discovery był pierwszym albumem ELO, który osiągnął #1 w brytyjskich listach. Singlowe wydania, takie jak Confusion czy Don't Bring Me Down, zdominowały wówczas listy przebojów.

Na okładce albumu użyto już kosmicznego statku kosmicznego znanego z albumów Out of the Blue i wcześniej A new world record, ale tutaj ukazany jest jak zabawka w rękach ciekawskiego młodzieńca w turbanie. Jednak cała scena staje się jasna dopiero po otwarciu podwójnej okładki: w tle człowiek kreśli miecz. Wnętrze okładki przedstawia ucieczkę chłopca z balowaniem statkiem w ramionach przed trzema jeźdźcami zszywającymi miecze na pustyni.
