ALBEDO: the fraction of light a surface returns rather than absorbs. This collection works hold no colour of their own. Their colour emerges through the relationship between light, surface, and viewer: two conditions are determined by the work, the third is you. The appearance of each half spheres changea with position. Move, and the colour shifts. Stand beside another viewer, and you may see something entirely different. Albedo becomes a meditation on perception and the instability of what we call reality. Identical conditions do not produce identical outcomes. The premise draws on the cosmos and the idea of parallel realities: worlds beginning under the same conditions and separating into different ones. Here that separation happens at close range: two people standing side by side do not see the same work.
Gyula TAKÁCS (b. 1990), is a multidisciplinary hungarian artist, graduated architect, and industrial designer, founder of Pilari Helsinki.
