Human Body
Eikoh Hosoe
Nihon Geijutsu Shuppansha/1982/japanese/318×312×37mm
Human Body" by Eikoh Hosoe (1933-2024), one of the leading photographers of postwar Japan. Eikoh Hosoe was a great photographer who sadly passed away last year at the age of 91. He was the mentor of Daido Moriyama, who is still active today, and left brilliant masterpieces in the history of Japanese photography such as “Otoko to Onna” (1961), ‘Rosasai’ (1963), and “Kamaitachi” (1969) in the 1960s, before Moriyama and Araki started working in the 1970s, He became a freelance photographer soon after graduating from a photography junior college, and continued his own creative activities from commercials without ceasing, and was a so-called superstar who was also involved in overseas activities from early on. In later years, he also devoted himself to teaching younger students at universities. This book is centered around the 1971 series “Embrace,” and concludes with unpublished works taken in the United States and Europe during the 10 years since ‘Embrace’ was published, as well as three works from "The Rosy Punishment.
