I have more rare photo books. I do combine shipping cost.
This photobook is the story of the former smallest farmer in Lithuania, who was only 90 cm tall. It is told through photographs.
Although the series is called “The Sorrows and Joys of Little Alfonso”, the hardships are almost invisible in the photographs. Taking care of animals for Alfonso is not hardship, but communication with his own. He walks among them smiling and at the same time – festively tense, even when his clothes are gray from years and work. Misfortunes and poverty remain out of the frame, only their physical traces in the environment are visible.
At the end of the book – a hospital. In the sterile whiteness, the wrinkles on his face become more pronounced, unbecoming of a child’s body. This is the end – Alfonso died in 2008. But here he is waving from the last photograph, as if he had returned from the fairy tale he lived in to our reality, where there is no place for him.
