This is an excellent bed linen in pure heavy linen. We can date this bed linen towards the end of the 19th Century as it has a seam in the centre. Weaving looms at that time could not weave more than 1 meter and both edges ( selvedges) would be joined by either out workers or middle aged school girls by sewing the selvedges together by hand. What remains a mystery why the initials are always off centre and not on either side of the seam. One reason could be that if there was a letter on either side of the seam by the time they were joined there could be puckering even so the edges were stitched together by hand and that would show both initials not at the same height. So please be aware that both initials C.H. are slightly off centre and on the left hand side of the bed linen. PLEASE SEE LAST PHOTO. The initials C.H. are magnificently embroidered in single red cross stitch and are each 8 cm long. There are 2 bed linen identical in the auctions.
