Rare silver alloy Viking amulet pendant dedicated to the Pagan cult of the Norse Sea Serpent. Its coiled body is forming an openwork trefoil design. The front surface is decorated with fine scaly texture, evoking the sinuous movement of the mythical creature. Plain reverse, complete with integral suspension loop for wear as an amulet or pendant.
The amulet represents the movement of Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent also known as the World Serpent in Norse mythology said to encircle the world and embody the eternal cycle of life and death. Such motifs symbolised protection, strength, and mastery over the sea, reflecting the deep maritime traditions of Viking culture. Amulets as these were worn as a good luck charm and to show respect for their gods.
Size: ± 21,4 x 18,5 mm
Condition: Very good condition, complete with intact suspension loop. Appealing patina. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
