A Bronze Age bronze spearhead featuring a triangular blade with upwards-sloping shoulders. The prominent central mid-rib flows seamlessly into the cylindrical socket which was used to attach the blade to the wooden shaft. The socket widens towards the bottom and terminates in a thickened rim. The seam where the sheet of bronze was folded is visible down the length of the socket. A rivet hole features at the base. There is patination and earthy encrustation to the surface as well as chipping along the edges of the blade. Perforation to the body of the socket on one side.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
