卖家的描述
4 Chair Set 783 Kentucky by Carlo Scarpa for Bernini
A masterpiece of Italian cabinetmaking, the 783 Kentucky chair, designed by Carlo Scarpa and produced by the historic Bernini company, is a tribute to the simplicity of ancient wooden chairs, but reinterpreted with modern and elegant taste.
Design and history:
The Kentucky chair, designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1977, draws on the simple, practical style of old American chairs (Shaker) known for being essential and without frills. Scarpa took this idea of practicality and transformed it into a modern object. The frame is made of slender wooden pillars that rise upward, creating a clean and orderly geometric design.
The structure is made of oak and walnut wood, seats and backs in black leather.
Carlo Scarpa designed this chair for the “Scuderia” series, the last project he completed for Bernini.
The chair was specially designed by Scarpa with a slight forward tilt. This feature allows it to rock back (up to leaning against a wall) and to stay balanced.
Lot conditions:
The lot presented at auction consists of a set of four chairs in excellent used condition.
Frame: the chassis is perfectly intact, solid, robust and free of structural defects. The walnut wood surfaces have been treated with professional products that, while preserving the original patina, revive the grain and enhance its appearance.
Seat and back: the black leather is well stretched and the overall patina returns that charming vintage “lived-in” feel that only high-quality leather can confer. The leather has been cleaned, sanitized and treated with professional nourishing products to restore its look and softness.
The feet bear the Bernini logo
Dimensions of each chair:
Width: 49 cm
Depth: 42 cm
Height: 105 cm
Don’t miss the chance to acquire this set of four 783 Kentucky chairs, an investment in author design that will bring Carlo Scarpa’s timeless elegance to your living space.
The Designer: Carlo Scarpa
Carlo Scarpa’s work establishes him as one of the most important designers of the 20th century, able to elevate construction detail into pure art form. His furniture designs transform decor into a miniature architecture, where icons like the Doge table celebrate the beauty of joints and exposed connections. Through the skillful use of metal, wood and marble, Scarpa blends traditional craft with absolute and poetic geometric rigor. Each creation is a functional sculpture that ennobles material and living space, making him a timeless reference for Made in Italy. His legacy lies in the unique ability to fuse historical sensibility with radical modernity in every detail.
The Manufacturer: Bernini
Founded in the early 1900s, Bernini became an exemplar of Italian design thanks to collaborations with some of the most illustrious names in architecture (Carlo Scarpa, Joe Colombo, Gaetano Pesce). The company is renowned for working with highly prized wood and for translating complex project visions into perfect everyday objects.
