A fine Bronze Age bronze stylised quadruped figurine, most likely a bull. It features a folded rectangular body, short legs, and a short tail that curves downwards. The animal has a short neck and a rounded muzzle, atop which sit small chipped ears. A suspension loop attached to the back of the animal suggests amuletic use. Animals are a recurring motif in Bronze Age art and metalwork, ranging from mammals such as ibexes and large birds to zoomorphic creatures including griffins. The manufacturers of these bronzes are widely understood to have been a nomadic people, and as such working animals such as bulls would have been central to their way of life, aiding in transport and agriculture and featuring in religion. The importance of bulls in Bronze Age cultures is reflected in their prevalence in the material art.
