Incised details indicate the eye, wing and tail feathers. Amulets made from Lapis Lazuli could be worn to invoke Jupiter’s favour, protection, and wisdom, as he was a god of divine authority and justice. Ground Lapis Lazuli was used for decorative and cosmetic purposes, but it was also believed to have medicinal properties. Roman physicians sometimes recommended it for various ailments, such as improving eyesight, reducing headaches, or for soothing the soul. In ancient Greece and Rome, Lapis Lazuli was linked to Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. In Roman tradition, oaths were sworn on the Iuppiter Lapis (Jupiter Stone), housed in the Temple of Jupiter. This stone symbolized Jupiter's role as the divine lawmaker and protector of order. It was especially significant during ceremonies, such as taking oaths of office, to emphasize the seriousness and sacred nature of the promises made.
