Matsubara Hand-Forged Japanese Kitchen Knife – 165 mm – Traditional Craft – Made in Japan
This beautiful Japanese kitchen knife is produced by Matsubara Hamono, a traditional knife maker from Nagasaki Prefecture with more than 500 years of history.
The origins of Matsubara knives trace back to the 15th century, when descendants of the swordsmith Naminohira Yukiyasu established their workshop in Hizen Matsubara in 1474. Since then, the craftsmen have continued to forge blades using techniques derived from traditional Japanese sword making.
Each knife is hand-forged and carefully finished by skilled artisans, resulting in a blade that combines sharpness, durability, and beautiful traditional aesthetics.
The blade is made using Shirogami (White Steel) and Aogami (Blue Steel), well known among Japanese knife enthusiasts for their exceptional sharpness and edge retention.
The blade features a distinctive hand-forged finish that reflects the craftsmanship of traditional Japanese blacksmithing.
The handle is made of natural wood and provides a comfortable grip and balanced handling, making it suitable for both professional chefs and collectors of Japanese knives.
