An exceptionally beautiful and rare bronze finger ring dating from the height of the Viking Age (c. 9th to 11th century AD). This type of jewelry demonstrates the sophisticated craftsmanship of early medieval Scandinavian metalsmiths.
The ring is cast and features a striking openwork geometric pattern with a series of triangular and arched cut-outs. It is designed with an open, overlapping band (overlapping hoop), a typical construction method of this period that allowed the ring to be easily adjusted in size back then (and today).
Over the centuries, the bronze has developed a deep, stable, dark brown to black natural uncleaned soil patina, giving the piece a powerful archaeological appearance. The ring remains in excellent, solid condition and is completely wearable despite its age.
