The piece features a central perforation for mounting onto a wooden shaft and presents a well-balanced profile with broad flanges extending from the central body. Weapons of this type occupied an important role within early Andean societies, serving both as functional implements and as symbols of status, authority, and ritual power. Carefully worked from a dark, dense stone, likely serpentinite, the mace head exhibits an attractive polished surface developed through ancient manufacture and centuries of age.
