A finely carved stone mace head displaying the characteristic spool-shaped form associated with the ceremonial and martial traditions of the Chavín and Cupisnique cultures of ancient Peru. The piece features a central perforation for mounting onto a wooden shaft and presents a well-balanced profile with broad flanges extending from the central body. Weapons of this type occupied an important role within early Andean societies, serving both as functional implements and as symbols of status, authority, and ritual power.

Carefully worked from a dark, dense stone, likely serpentinite, the mace head exhibits an attractive polished surface developed through ancient manufacture and centuries of age.
