Horse Head in Jadeite – Hellenistic–Roman Provincial, 1st Century BC to 2nd Century AD

A finely carved jadeite horse head displaying the stylized yet expressive features characteristic of provincial luxury objects produced under Hellenistic and early Roman influence. The sculpture is executed in a dark green stone with abundant crystalline inclusions, giving the surface a distinctive mottled appearance that enhances its visual depth. The powerful muzzle, rounded cheeks, carefully drilled eyes, and incised mane demonstrate the artisan’s attention to naturalistic detail while maintaining a compact and highly decorative form.
