Amlash Terracotta 带嘴的器皿 (没有保留价)

A finely modelled Amlash red terracotta vessel, featuring a globular body, with an everted rim, sitting upon a slightly flattened base. A short, tubular spout with a small mouth resembling a bird’s beak extends outwards from the body on one side. A ring handle is applied vertically to the shoulder to the left. Three small spiked protrusions further decorate the rim. The spout has been previously repaired with the crack and glue residue still visible. The piece is covered in encrustations. Further chips to the spout and the rim. The term ‘Amlash Culture’, has generally been used to designate material cultures excavated at Gilan, an archaeological site on the southern shore of the Caspian sea, and refers to a group of Iron Age pottery and metal executions with a strong visual character. Most of the Amlash pottery vessels are believed to have been stylistically and typologically inspired by bronze wares of the same period. Terracotta vessels of this type were clearly designed as pouring vessels, but they might have been used in a particular funerary ritual and ceremonial occasion. Measurements: (circa) W 19.5cm x H 12.5cm Provenance: Ex. specialist Near Eastern pottery collection, London, 1990s.
