Antique Faux Bamboo Wooden Reading Stand / Book Rest, circa 1900 A distinctive floor-standing reading stand crafted in dark-stained wood with finely turned faux-bamboo detailing. The elongated open framework is designed to support books at an inclined reading angle, combining practical use with the decorative character associated with late Victorian and early 20th-century interiors. The wooden structure retains an attractive aged surface with warm variations in the finish and patina developed through use. The turned uprights, shaped feet and long book-supporting rails remain visually well balanced and give the stand a strong architectural presence. It will be shipped exactly as shown in the photographs, so please examine all images carefully. And books are not included. Faux-bamboo furniture became particularly fashionable in European interiors around the turn of the 20th century, reflecting the period's interest in exotic materials and natural forms while being executed in traditionally worked wood. The unusually tall open construction and dedicated book-supporting format make this an appealing piece for collectors of period furniture, historic libraries and decorative reading-room interiors.
