The front of this medal shows the main gate of the Osaka Mint when it was first established. This old main gate was built in 1871 (Meiji 4) when the mint was founded, and it is located within the Mint in Tenma, Kita Ward, Osaka City. It’s not just a regular historic-style building—it’s an actual historical structure from the early days of Japan’s modern mint. The design was overseen by the British engineer T. J. Waters (ウォートルス).
