A fine Assyrian Gold filigree bead, in a shape of a cone. The body of the bead displays a thin gold wire twisted to form a cone terminating on each side with a trail of granulation. The bead is hollow and features a central channel for suspension. Signs of wear including minor abrasions to the surface and flattening of the granules, all consistent with age. Such bead would have been part of an elaborate necklace or bracelet. Jewellery played an important role across many Near Eastern civilisations. Gold necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets would have been worn in everyday life but also buried with the deceased.
