古代罗马人 青铜 指环与钥匙 (没有保留价)

"Ancient Roman Bronze Finger Ring and Key – Two Objects Culture / Period: Ancient Roman Date / Period: 1st–2nd century AD Material: Bronze Dimensions: 20–25 mm Condition: Good condition, with age-related surface wear and natural dark brown-green patination. The ring retains its raised bezel, while the key preserves its circular bow and hollow shaft, with wear and damage to the bit. See photographs for details. No shipping outside the European Union. Due to complex export regulations concerning cultural goods, this item cannot be shipped outside the EU. Please ensure you have a delivery address within the European Union before placing a bid. Provenance information: Object Registration ID: 1069 The current owner (S.N.J. S.) purchased the bronze ring and key from J.P. in Eijsden, the Netherlands. The previous owner, J.P. from Eijsden (the Netherlands), stated that the objects had been in his collection since the 1990s. According to the previous owner, the objects had previously been in a private collection in the Netherlands since the 1990s. No further information concerning the earlier ownership history of the objects was available from the previous owner. Background Information: Bronze finger rings and keys were familiar objects in everyday Roman life, combining personal adornment with practical security. This group consists of a bronze finger ring with a raised, rounded bezel and a small bronze key featuring a circular bow and hollow shaft, characteristic of Roman metalworking traditions. Finger rings were worn by men and women throughout the Roman Empire. While some served as decorative jewellery, others incorporated engraved gemstones or metal bezels that could function as personal seals. The raised bezel of this example reflects the importance of rings as accessories, although its precise original purpose cannot be established. Keys were equally important in Roman households, shops and workshops. They operated locking mechanisms fitted to doors, wooden chests, cabinets and storage boxes, protecting money, documents and personal possessions. Small bronze keys were particularly suitable for portable containers and furniture, reflecting the Roman concern for securing valuable belongings. During the Early Roman Imperial period, particularly under the Flavian, Trajanic and Hadrianic emperors, bronze accessories were produced in specialised workshops throughout the provinces. Craftsmen employed casting, filing and finishing techniques to manufacture durable objects in established forms. Comparable rings and keys are known from Roman settlements across present-day Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The widespread distribution of such objects reflects the movement of goods, craftsmen and manufacturing traditions throughout the Roman Empire. Their practical designs demonstrate how Roman material culture extended beyond monumental architecture and military equipment into ordinary domestic life. Together, these two bronze objects illustrate different aspects of personal life in Roman society: adornment and security. They provide a tangible connection to the ancient world, where rings and keys were familiar possessions used in everyday activities nearly two thousand years ago."
