Tlatilco Terracotta Figurine – 12th to 6th century BC – 60 × 40 × 32 mm – 69 g
This finely crafted terracotta figurine represents a stylized anthropomorphic head from the Tlatilco culture, one of the most emblematic societies of Formative Period Central Mexico. The serene facial expression, almond-shaped eyes, and carefully modeled nose reflect the distinctive aesthetic canon associated with Tlatilco “Pretty Lady” representations, often linked to themes of identity, fertility, and ritual symbolism.
Notably, the presence of lateral perforations near the ears suggests that the piece may have been worn or suspended, possibly as a pendant or ritual ornament. Traces of mineral-based pigmentation and the natural surface patina are consistent with prolonged burial conditions, reinforcing its archaeological authenticity. The restrained yet expressive modeling exemplifies the refined craftsmanship achieved by Tlatilco artisans during the Early to Middle Formative period.
