Both volumes are in good condition, with the books' hinges and binding in good, reliable state. Please note that book books have stickers on the inside end paper from the old Amsterdam booksellers (see photos). Note also that the end papers on both books has some noticeable browning. The gold embossing on the spines remains in good condition. Volume One has 506 numbered pages. Volume Two has 493 numbered pages. Maxwell's work on electromagnetism was hailed by Einstein as "the most important event in physics since Newton's time". This treatise not only helped unify the studies of electricity and magnetism within a mathematical framework, it also paved the way for studies on wave theory, bringing optics together with electromagnetism and paving the way for Einstein's theory of relativity.
