These were the pursuits that preoccupied the life of the medieval King Edward I over 700 years ago. This Silver Penny was issued during the reign of King Edward I who reigned from 1272-1307. When Edward I came to the English throne he was commanding an army in the Holy Land. The epitome of a medieval King, he was famous for his feats in hunting, falconry and jousting. These silver pennies are incredible examples of medieval commerce, surviving for over 700 years. The long cross on the reverse of this coin was an attempt of preventing fraud and was introduced to prevent clipping of the coins.
