Northwest Africa 16480 (NWA 16480) Purchased: 2023 Feb Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite, olivine) Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Achondritic breccia consisting of pyroxenite clasts with sizes up to several mm, embedded in small amounts of fine-grained related debris. Considerable amounts of olivine and plagioclase fragments are present. Accessories are Cr-spinel, F-apatite, and Fe-Ni metal. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Pyroxene composition: Fs24.8±0.9Wo1.8±0.2 (Fs23.6-26.2Wo1.5-2-2); mean Fe/Mn (at.): 33.9; n=14. Olivine composition: Fa31.6±0.7 (Fa30.4-33.3); Fe/Mn (at.): 52.9; n=15. Plagioclase composition: An92.6±2.0 Or0.1±0.2 (An88.6-95.9Or0.0-0.5); n=13.
