賣家描述
Elegant undecorated glass-pressed transparent pedestal plate, model “Lucrèce,” produced by the Cristalleries du Val Saint Lambert and listed in the 1913 catalog, emblematic document of the grand hours of the manufactory. This piece is part of a prestigious series alongside models such as “Diamants Pierreries,” “Hambourg,” or “Gilbert,” illustrating the richness of the decorative repertoire developed on the eve of World War I. The specimen presented bears the molded signature “VAL ST LAMBERT DÉPOSÉ” twice, under the plate and at the heart of the hollow foot, attesting to its authenticity and its belonging to this quality production.
The plate adopts a circular shape with a delicately beaded edge, whose slightly wavy profile animates the silhouette and catches the light with subtlety. The decor, of great finesse, unfolds in a radiating pattern centered on a six-petaled rose, finely striated, evoking a stylized flower. This central motif is surrounded by a network of curved garlands and reserves punctuated by stars and rosettes, forming a dense and rhythmic composition where smooth surfaces alternate with geometric reliefs. The foot, conical and flared, repeats this ornamental vocabulary in a vertical reading: broad stylized leaves rise from the circular base, themselves accompanied by radiating motifs echoing the plate. The whole testifies to a high mastery of moulding, enabling effects of shine and depth characteristic of productions of that era.
The overall condition is good. The glass retains a beautiful transparency and satisfactory brilliance, with a few signs of use in the form of light surface scratches, consistent with the piece’s age. There is also a slight uniform bluish tinge on the underside of the plate; this phenomenon, relatively common on old glass, can result from superficial alteration related to conservation conditions (humidity, thermal variations) or a chemical evolution of the surface material. This aspect remains discreet and does not affect the solidity or legibility of the decoration.
In 1913, Val Saint Lambert stood at a turning point in its history, at the summit of its international influence. Founded in 1826, the Belgian manufacturer established itself as one of the main European centers of crystal production, notably developing the pressed- and moulded-glass technique which allows richly decorated models to be produced at a larger scale. The 1913 catalog reflects this ambition, combining the ornamental heritage of the 19th century with formal research announcing the stylistic evolutions of the early 20th century. The Lucrèce collection perfectly illustrates this transition, where the stylization of natural motifs and the rigor of composition prefigure later developments of modern decorative arts within the manufactory.
Dimensions are:
