Vintage Bamboo and Wicker Rocking Chair - Mid-Century Style (60s/70s)
We present at auction a beautiful vintage rocking chair with a strong sculptural impact, made entirely of steam-bent bamboo and rattan. Dated approximately to the 1960s or 1970s, this piece perfectly embodies Boho-Chic taste and the natural charm of Mid-Century design. The style recalls famous productions of the era, such as wicker and reed works by Italian designers (often compared to Franco Albini) or the famous Dutch seats by Rohé Noordwolde.
As can be seen from the photographic documentation, the seat stands out for:
Enveloping design: The frontal view (visible in 28519.jpg) highlights a high contoured backrest and a slatted seat adjacent to each other, designed to offer maximum comfort and an airy aesthetic.
Sinous and dynamic lines: The side profiles (visible in files 28520.jpg and 28522.jpg) show the fine heat-bent bamboo work. The armrests create wide continuous rings that smoothly fuse with the base runners, returning a silhouette that is light yet extremely stable.
Craftsmanship: The back of the chair (28521.jpg) reveals the details of the wicker/rattan bindings and the sturdy framework, a testament to manual skill and durable construction.
Condition:
The item presents itself in excellent vintage condition. The structure is solid and fully functional. The bamboo has acquired over time a splendid warm golden patina. There are minor and normal signs of time consistent with age and use, which in no way compromise its beauty but certify its historicity.
Technical Details:
Material: Bamboo, Rattan/Wicker
Estimated period: 1960-1979
Country of origin: Europe
