Abbasid Caliphate. AFZWT type, time of Al-Rashid. Ar Hemidrachm. PYE 132 = 167 AH. Tabaristán. Obv/ Sassanid-style draped bust on the right, with an elaborate crown; behind and in front of the head, 'GDE – ʾp̄zwt' ('[may his glory] increase' in Pahlavi); on the outer left margin, 'Jarīr' ('Jarir' in Arabic); on the outer right margin, 'ʾp̄d' ('wonderful' in Pahlavi). Rev/ Altar of Fire, flanked by two attendants; on the altar, two stars; on the left date in Pahlavi; to the right, 'tpwlstʾn' ('Tabaristan' in Pahlavi). RARE variant without chest marking.
