This early portrait type is traditionally known as the “Long Hair” type. The reverse retained the traditional crowned national arms and the denomination in both guilders and cents. Wilhelmina became Queen of the Netherlands in November 1890 following the death of her father, King William III. She was ten years old at the time, and her mother, Queen Emma, served as regent until Wilhelmina reached the age of eighteen in 1898.
