This early portrait type is traditionally known as the “Long Hair” type. Obverse Youthful portrait of Queen Wilhelmina facing left, with her long hair hanging down and a pearl necklace around her neck. The initials W.S. of medallist W.J. Schammer appear below the portrait. Legend: WILHELMINA KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN Translation: “Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands.” Reverse The crowned national coat of arms of the Netherlands, showing the Dutch lion holding a sword and a bundle of seven arrows. The denomination appears as 1 – G on either side of the arms, with 100 C. below. The date 1892 is placed above the crown. She was ten years old at the time, and her mother, Queen Emma, served as regent until Wilhelmina reached the age of eighteen in 1898. This 1892 issue belongs to the first guilder type struck in Wilhelmina’s name. Its youthful portrait, created by W.J. Schammer, shows the young queen with long, freely hanging hair and a pearl necklace. The design was used for the silver guilder issues of 1892 and 1897 before being replaced by a new portrait by Pier Pander. The reverse retained the traditional crowned national arms and the denomination in both guilders and cents. One guilder was equal to 100 cents, as indicated by the inscription 100 C. beneath the shield. Please examine the photographs carefully for the condition and appearance of the coin.
