This lot features a silver guilder (gulden) from 1763, struck in Harderwijk for the province of Gelderland. This type of coin, known as the Generaliteitsgulden, was a primary silver trade denomination during the later years of the Dutch Republic.

Obverse: The crowned coat of arms of the United Provinces (a rampant lion with a sword and a bundle of arrows). The value 1 - G is displayed on either side of the shield. Legend: MO ARG ORD FOE BELG D GEL & C Z (Silver money of the States of the United Netherlands Provinces of the Duchy of Gelderland and the County of Zutphen).
Reverse: The Dutch Maiden standing, leaning her left elbow on a Bible placed on a column or altar. In her right hand, she holds a spear topped with a hat of liberty. The date 1763 is located in the exergue. Legend: HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR (On her we lean, her we protect).

Mint Master: Carl Christiaan Novisadi (1761-1771), identified by the mintmark of a pollard tree with sprout.
