NWA 17627 - 狄俄尼岩(noritic) - 来自4 Vesta的HED小行星碎片 - 141 g
Offered here is a 141 gram complete individual of NWA 17627, an officially classified HED achondrite, Diogenite (noritic).
NWA 17627 is a particularly interesting member of the HED meteorite group, which is widely interpreted to originate from 4 Vesta, one of the largest differentiated bodies in the asteroid belt. Diogenites represent material derived from the deeper parts of the Vestan crust and are dominated by Mg-rich orthopyroxene.
The Meteoritical Bulletin describes NWA 17627 as a coarse-grained diogenitic breccia, consisting predominantly of large orthopyroxene grains set within a finer-grained clastic matrix. Approximately 15 vol.% plagioclase is present, together with minor chromite, troilite and Ni-free metallic iron. The meteorite also contains shock-melt veins and pockets, recording the intense impact processing experienced by its parent body.
The designation “noritic” reflects the relatively significant abundance of plagioclase compared with typical diogenites. The combination of abundant orthopyroxene and plagioclase gives this specimen its characteristic appearance and provides a glimpse into the differentiated crust of its parent asteroid.
The offered specimen is a substantial 141 g complete individual, preserving its natural external surface and providing an excellent representation of the material without the specimen having been cut or otherwise extensively prepared.
I am a member of the Meteoritical Society (#7743) and the Global Meteorite Association (#G0129) and have been collecting meteorites for more than 16 years.
